5 Reasons to Travel by Train

If you are planning to take a trip soon and are ready to by your plane ticket, it might be a good idea to check out these tips booking that flight. Sometimes it’d better to travel by train and here’s why!

Save Money
Trains are more economical alternative to planes, especially if you are planning to travel a relatively short distance. Some rail operators offer discounts for children, seniors, students, AAA members, military personnel and other key demographics. So check out train fares before booking a flight.
Consistent Rates
If you have ever tried purchasing a flight ticket knows how frustrating it is to see how the prices change on a daily, weekly, monthly basis. With train fares, they typically tend to be the same on any given day, no matter the week or the month. This doesn’t mean increases wont occur, but that is usually only during peak periods and holidays, but in the end they are far more consistent than airlines.

Baggage Policies
Booking a flight can be expensive, and then add the baggage fees; it’s enough to break the bank. Most times you are limited to your number of carry-on and the number of checked baggage. But if you travel by train, you might be surprised by their policies. For example, Amtrak allows passenger’s two carry-on items up to 50 pounds each (as well as personal items). They also allow up to four checked bags up to 50 pounds each, the first two of which are free. Third and fourth checked bags cost $20 each.

Flexible
If you have ever missed your flight, I’m sure you know how inconvenient and expensive it can be to book a new one. The great thing about trains is they tend to be much more flexible. If you don’t make the 11 a.m., then you can catch the next one in thirty minutes. It’s as easy as picking up a ticket at the window with no additional fees.
Comfort

There is nothing worse then sitting in on a cramped flight for more than 2 hours. You can never really get comfortable enough to sleep or just sit and read a book. If you travel by train you don’t have to worry about any of that. You have plenty of leg room, and are free to move around at will.

Try to travel by train for your next trip!
